Alresford
(pronounced Allsford) is conveniently situated on the A31 near Winchester and
is a beautiful Georgian Town which for many centuries was a prosperous wool
town.
Voted the most attractive market town in the south of England (and
second in the whole of England) in the 2005 Country Life Market Towns
competition. Alresford is famed throughout the country for its colourful
Georgian architecture, open airy streets and quaint passageways and is set on
the edge of the Alresford marshlands in the beautiful Upper Itchen Valley
countryside approx 7 miles east of Winchester.
Alresford has a population of
some 6,020 (Census 2001) Approximately 2,845 residents are in employment or
self-employment. It is estimated that local businesses (including schools etc.)
employ approximately 2,500, of whom perhaps 1,025 (41%) live within the
Alresford area whilst 1,500 come from outside to work in the town. Some 1800
residents work outside the area.
Visit the specialist shops
selling antiques, gifts, food, clothes for all ages, antiquarian books,
pictures, china and crafts. With pubs, hotels, restaurants and tea rooms, your
every need will be satisfied. And don't forget to visit the Watercress Line
steam railway that runs from Alresford to Alton through 10 miles of beautiful
Hampshire countryside.
TRAVELLING TO ALRESFORD: is easy via excellent
road links and even a steam railway. The A31 provides a dual carriageway link
to Winchester and J9 of the M3 within 6 miles, and east on to Guildford and M25
beyond.

Alton Station normally with at least one train per hour.

operates five days a week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
